Fire damages market

Fire has damaged part of a building in Nottingham’s Sneinton Market.

Nearby shops had to be evacuated as nearly 40 firefighters tackled the flames on Sunday afternoon.

The fire started in one of the long buildings in the old wholesale market.

The site is now home to industrial units and shops.

Firefighters saved two thirds of the block, but six to eight units were badly damaged by fire and smoke.

These included the cafe, Tasty Bits, and the handbag wholesaler, Bags of Style.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but arson is suspected.
